Weekly blog #168: And off we go!

Spring is in the air! And with the dawn of this new season, also a new period arrives in which I’ll be inseparable once again with my little mint-green suitcase on four wheels. Because what my loyal travelling companion doesn’t know yet is that – after a winter of being stored at the bottom of my closet – I will be dragging her around again. Through big aeroplane terminals, over the bumpy stones of narrow Italian streets, and in-and-out hotel elevators.

I now long to get out of the city again

And I feel that it’s the highest time. On this Sunday afternoon the twelfth of March in which the sun is shining brightly, I can feel it in everything. As much as I loved being in Milan full-time for the past two months and getting to know the city – my new hometown – better, I now long to get out of the city again. To breathe a different air. To feel the salty sea breeze through my hair. To hear other accents around me. This new season of spring that’s palpable in the air creates an irresistible urge to go out inside, and to see new places.

The fact that, on Sunday afternoon, I have already taken out my suitcase from the closet even though I am not leaving until Tuesday morning says it all

I usually really dread packing my suitcase, and it is something I always put off until only a few hours before departure. So, the fact that, on Sunday afternoon, I have already taken out my suitcase from the closet even though I am not leaving until Tuesday morning says it all. I guess I’m quite looking forward to it.

Little did I know back then that this choice of Milan would get me to return to Puglia so soon again

This next month is for a large part dedicated to travelling: I will be visiting new destinations I’ve not been to yet, but also returning to places I have been before. Like this first trip that’s coming up now. The destination? Puglia! The region in southern Italy where I spent last summer, and about which I’ve told you in quite a few of my blogs. The place where I made that very important decision to move to Milan. Little did I know back then that this choice of Milan would get me to return to Puglia so soon again. And this time, it’s a work trip. What’s in store for the rest of the month, I’ll tell you in the next blog!
