Do you remember what I wrote in my blog three weeks ago? About how I would apply a “tropical schedule” when the outside temperatures would go up to thirty-five degrees and how I didn’t really see that happening in the Netherlands anytime soon? Well, challenge accepted, they must have thought up there in heaven. Today, and especially tomorrow, we are heading towards forty degrees. The Roman temperatures have chased me down.
Just like last month in Italy, I find it rather difficult to follow that last piece of advice
The advices to cope with the heat which are announced on radio and tv are almost the same as what they told us in Italy. Drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun, and don’t exert yourself too much. But just like last month in Italy, I find it rather difficult to follow that last piece of advice. Simply because these days in July are always so packed with fun things. Yesterday, my friends and I organised an all-pink baby shower for our pregnant friend. And as always, we went all the way. Even though it wasn’t really a surprise for the mummy-to-be (our friend S. is the most impossible person in the world to surprise), it was still fantastic. Today is friend A.C.’s birthday, and tonight we are all going out for dinner. And then the week has only just begun.
Years ago, I lived in the European capital and I still get very warm feelings when thinking back of that special period in my life
Tomorrow I am going to do something that I have wanted to do for a very long time – for years, in fact. I’ll head to Brussels! That may not seem like the best idea for the hottest day of the year, but I’ve already been looking forward to it and then it’s very hard to change my mind. Years ago, I lived in the European capital and I still get very warm feelings when thinking back of that special period in my life. Moreover, after all this time in Rome, I am now italiana (or rather romana) enough not to be deterred by high temperatures.
Friend T. set me a new challenge yesterday: I am not allowed to bring a suitcase, only a bag
Once returned from Brussels on Thursday, we have the farewell drinks of friends. They live in Vietnam all year round, except for a few weeks in summer, and it’s time for them to return home again unfortunately. And then the weekend is only just around the corner with more exciting plans coming up. With a group of friends – including the two couples that came to visit me in Rome last November for a fantastic weekend – we are going to the Champagne region. It’s going to be three days of touring the French countryside, eating in the cutest French villages while wearing the loveliest summer dresses, and of course: tasting champagne. Friend T. – who has been asked to bring home boxes of champagne for the whole family and group of friends – set me a new challenge yesterday: I am not allowed to bring a suitcase, only a bag. Otherwise, the boot would already be full. Well, challenge accepted. As always. No matter if it’s a heat wave, a surprise party or packing stress, and preferably even all at the same time.
